Building Brookton
Less than 100 km from the Perth metropolitan area, Brookton is a comfortable one hour drive from Karragullen and residents enjoy many lifestyle benefits of country living whilst retaining many creature comforts.
Brookton is a wheatbelt town settled by John Seabrook in 1846, seventeen years after the settlement on the Swan River. The Great Southern Railway was the catalyst which gave isolated farms a centre, arriving in 1884 with the establishment of the Seabrook Siding. By 1903 the tiny settlement of Brookton comprised a school, hotel, bank and a few shops and in 1906 the Brookton Road Board was formed. Today the town has a population of around 1000 people.
In 2007, Building Brookton was established by local community members and the Shire of Brookton to support projects and activities that contribute to the enhancement, well-being and future sustainability of the Brookton community and district.
The Building Brookton advisory committee is made up of representatives from across the Brookton community with the role of promoting and growing the endowment through philanthropic and fundraising initiatives. Further, the advisory committee works closely with the local community to identify and recommend programs and activities for support through a grants program.
