The Foundation’s unique model empowers communities to take some control of their destiny as it is designed to ensure they will benefit in perpetuity from gifts to a community fund.
Looking back over 2008, it has been an exciting year despite the challenges. The Western Australian Community Foundation has continued to reach new milestones, demonstrating growth in funds under management and most significantly funds distributed to WA communities, meeting their needs to strengthen capacity. Following five diligent years of development and expansion, the Foundation is now witnessing “grass roots” impact across the state.
In fact, more than $480,000 in funds has been distributed to support community groups, activities and initiatives since the program’s inception just 18 months ago. I commend the Board, executive and staff for their time and dedication towards building a vibrant community foundation and in turn, a vibrant state.
WA communities have demanded flexibility from the Western Australian Community Foundation as an increasing number and variety of individuals, community organisations and businesses have accessed the model. This flexibility is demonstrated in the organisation’s unique structure and the tailor-made objectives for each community fund established with the Foundation.
Local advisory committee volunteers have embraced the fund distribution program with many wonderful examples of positive community outcomes from grants as small as $200. Larger community investments also have been made, with far-reaching community benefits. The Foundation will continue to deliver resources where most required, ensuring the support to its communities delivers benefits through innovative thinking and strategic partnerships.
I wish the Western Australian Community Foundation a successful year ahead as it continues to strengthen communities by sharing ideas and providing support through its expanding network across WA.
I encourage all to embrace and support the Foundation’s philosophy of philanthropy, for now and the future, for the betterment of all Western Australians. |
